Dr. Emily S. Minderman is one of the founding physicians at Kansas City ObGyn. She has been practicing medicine since 2001, and has been serving patients as a private practice ObGyn since 2005. Women choose Dr. Minderman to be their ob/gyn because she is a compassionate, attentive listener, who truly enjoys getting to know each of her patients. She can relate to their experiences, and has a calm demeanor that puts her patients at ease.

“I chose to enter the field of ObGyn and to work with women because I simply love it,” Dr. Minderman said. “I found the science of women's health fascinating - both the normal physiology and the disease processes. Beyond that, I really enjoy taking care of women. I get the opportunity to know some great women and their families, and to share in very special moments in their lives. I also appreciate the variety of each day and each week. I see women in the office, but am also a surgeon and I deliver babies - what could be better?”

Curing, Comforting and Caring for Women

One of the most rewarding parts of her job, she says, is caring for women with both low- and high-risk pregnancies. She also performs and supports minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. In addition to these contributions to Kansas City Ob/Gyn, Dr. Minderman helps women with a range of problems, including problem periods, contraception and family planning, infertility, abnormal pap smears, endometriosis, prolapse and urinary incontinence issues, and menopause management, not to mention regular screening well-woman examinations.

“My motivation as a physician stems from my desire to help people,” Dr. Minderman said. “Sharing the journey to bring a healthy baby into the world brings great joy. However, I also see women dealing with difficult diagnoses or setbacks. Helping to ease the burden for those women and to find a cure, comfort or understanding is also very gratifying. I see some truly brave people who inspire me and teach me.”

Education, Honors & Achievements

Dr. Minderman earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at Creighton University, and her Doctor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University. She completed her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington.

The doctor is certified by both the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Kansas Board of Healing Arts. She was Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology on the Medical Executive Committee at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in 2012. She is also a Fellow at the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a proud member of the American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery and the American Medical Association.

“In my career, I am proud of where I am today, as a culmination of achievements, but I always look forward to continued growth and learning,” Dr. Minderman said. “I am also proud to have earned the trust of the women who have shared their lives with me.”

Outside the Office

One of Dr. Minderman’s proudest achievements is being a mother of two. Outside of work at Kansas City ObGyn, Dr. Minderman spends valuable time with her family and enjoys being a proud mom of two beautiful children. She also enjoys exercise and physical fitness, cooking, reading, traveling, and getting away to the lake for some boating and skiing. She tries hard to strike a healthy balance in her life.

“I am motivated by my family, my partners, and those who have helped to train me,” Minderman said. “I am fortunate to be surrounded by great people.”
